Dear AMSOIL, I chose AMSOIL for one reason. It is the best bar none. A friend of mine sent it out to a lab and had it analyzed and compared it to a few others. AMSOIL topped all others I chose in the past. This was something that was important to me because good oil is like having good blood. It is the life in your veins. Anytime someone wants to know what oil I use, I tell them AMSOIL is the #1 choice. Whether it be for a normal application or high performance street or drag race use, this is the oil to use. Duane Stephens Surrey, BC, Canada | Information on Duane's '89 Supra | | DRIVER PROFILE | | Name: Duane Stephens Location: Surrey, BC, Canada Car: 1989 Toyota Supra Color: White | Baseline Dyno Figures (Stock): Horsepower: 665HP Torque: 660 (Rated @ The Wheels) 1/4 Mile: 11.00 @130.27 | At first glance, the Supra appears stock but a couple of visual clues awaken a sense of urgent intrigue. A shiny show-quality carbon fibre hood and a custom-design bumper hint of a race car and the two gauges perched on the hood and a NOS spray kit fastened to the intercooler give conviction to the growing suspicion. Twin nitrous bottles in the trunk mounted like missiles primed to launch seal the verdict. A look inside the interior reveals a bevy of gauges, a carbon fibre dash kit, laptop, 6-point roll-cage, racing harnesses and unique custom accessories. The observer is convinced this is one manic Supra. The engine is a dizzying display for the performance-crazed: a GReddy turbo kit (IHI RHC7 turbo from Japan), GReddy tubular manifold, GReddy Race blow-off valve, GReddy Race external wastegate, GReddy 720 injectors, custom front mount intercooler, a myriad of chromed parts and many unique design parts. The fastidiously clean and meticulously organized engine makes it a hallmark of this Supra. Supporting players in the creation of performance include a carbon fibre driveshaft, TEC II stand-alone computer, built engine, R154 transmission with shot-peened forks, heavy-duty bearings and RPS six-puck race clutch, TEIN HA coilovers and custom CFX performance trailing arms. With its former turbo, a GReddy TD-06H 20G, the Supra had 460 rear wheel horsepower and 502 foot-pounds of torque, and achieved 12.5 at 122.48 mph trap speed without nitrous and on street tires. A new differential and slicks will get this beast into the 11’s and potentially into the 10’s. Now sporting a bigger turbo, it is geared to get a minimum of 550 rear wheel horsepower without nitrous. Although the 7M motor is capable of 500 rear wheel horsepower with stock internals (7Mpower.com), it was decided to take the extra measure of building the engine with JE pistons, rods and rebalanced crank. Remarkably, the power has been attained with a stock head and stock top end. When not in the shop, this Supra attends local and out-of-town car shows and has snagged many trophies. Not limiting itself to import shows, its intrusion into domestic, classic car and lowrider shows has garnered it Best Engine and Best Performance awards. It topped the MKIII’s for the Best Engine Bay and Best of Show Wild awards at the Supras Invade Las Vegas 2002 meet. At this event, Sport Compact Car did a photo shoot of the car for a feature 9-page spread in their June 2003 issue. Even though it’s built for power and speed, its versatility is great: driven everyday, driven far away (Las Vegas, 1300 miles one-way), a test car for new CFX parts, a rolling billboard for CFX, a show car, and most important of all, a (top) race car (at the track, of course).
